Description
  • Ganga Floods Sage Jahnu's Ashram: As Ganga descended to Earth, her powerful and rapid currents caused immense flooding. One such flood occurred in the ashram of Sage Jahnu, who was disturbed by the destructive force of the river. The flood caused chaos, leading to Sage Jahnu's anger.

  • Sage Jahnu Swallows Ganga: In his wrath, Sage Jahnu decided to swallow the entire river. He consumed Ganga completely, causing her to disappear from the Earth, leaving the world in a state of devastation.

  • Bhagirath’s Prayer: Bhagirath, the great-grandson of King Sagar, was deeply concerned about the plight of his ancestors’ souls and the divine mission of bringing Ganga to Earth. He prayed to Sage Jahnu, seeking forgiveness for the river’s disruption and asking for Ganga to be released.

  • Sage Jahnu’s Forgiveness: Moved by Bhagirath’s sincere prayers, Sage Jahnu decided to forgive the river and release her. He acknowledged the importance of Ganga’s descent to Earth for the salvation of souls and the blessings of humanity.

  • Ganga’s New Name - Jahnvi: After being released by Sage Jahnu, the river was given a new name, Jahnvi, in honor of the sage who had swallowed her and later released her. The name symbolizes the river’s association with Sage Jahnu and marks her sacred connection to the Earth.
