Kathia Baba refers to saints from the Nimbarka clan who follow the Vaishnava doctrine of Dvaitadvaita – a philosophy of dualism and non-dualism.
- Sri Ram Das Kathia Baba, a 19th-century saint, became known as Kathia Baba because he wore a Kath – a wooden belt around his waist. This practice became a tradition for all saints in the Nimbarka clan.
- The tradition of Kathia Baba is centered around sacrifice, celibacy, and devotion to God, emphasizing dedication and spiritual discipline.
- The saints of this tradition primarily worship Krishna (the eighth incarnation of Vishnu) and his Shakti, Goddess Radha, who represent divine love and energy.
- They believe that by chanting the name of God with complete sincerity and devotion, one can break free from material bondage and attain self-realization.
