Krishna – the eighth incarnation of the preserver God Vishnu, meeting the God of oceans – Varuna – to free his foster father, Nanda, who was kidnapped by Varuna.
Krishna’s foster father, Nanda, observed fast on Ekadashi – the eleventh day from the full moon day and went to take bath in river Yamuna the next day before sunrise. He went, however, too early which was an inauspicious time and known as demonic time according to the astrology. The servants of Varuna – the god of oceans – took Nanda to Varuna and kept him in captivity. When Krishna came to know about it, he went to Varuna to rescue his father. As Varuna saw Krishna, he realised that he was the incarnation of supreme God Vishnu and apologised for kidnapping his father. Varuna then released Nanda from his captivity.
