Muladhara Chakra – The 1st or root energy centre
Muladhara Chakra or “Root Chakra” is the 1st energy center located at the base of the spinal cord in the tailbone area. The inactive Kundalini rests in this chakra. It is symbolically represented by a lotus with four petals. Hence, it represents foundation—our fundamental instincts of self-survival and identification with world. It correlates to the Earth element. Earth is a primal element and this Chakra is associated with our basic and primal needs. The presiding deity at this Chakra is Lord Indra – the King of Devas or demi-gods, who rides an elephant, Airavat, with seven tusks. The sound associated with this Chakra is Lam.
