In Hindu culture, a sadhu is a religious ascetic and monk.
Sadhu is a person who has denounced all materialistic and worldly pleasures. Sadhu means to religiously performs Sadhana – the practice of spiritual discipline. The sole objective of a Sadhu is to achieve Liberation and Self-realisation. The term Sadhu exists from the time of Vedic culture and has been mentioned in Rigveda and Atharvaveda. A sadhu lives a simple life and wears simple clothes, there body and face smeared with ashes and have long hairlocks. They are found in all holy, pilgrimage places. They leave the comfort of luxuries and find richness in spirituality and divine. A sadhu is shown here guiding a youth on the importance of sipirituality in life.
