Samudra Mantha – the churning of Ksheer Sagar (ocean of milk) by Demi-gods and Demons.
Samudra Mantha- the churning of ocean- Devas (demi-gods) and Asuras (demons) collaborate to churn the ocean of milk to obtain Amrit, the elixir of life. Mount Mandar is used as a churning rod and serpent Vasuki as the churning rope. Turtle Kurma, an incarnation of Hindu god Vishnu, supporting Mount Mandar from sinking, and Lord Vishnu sitting atop Mount Mandar. Samudra Manthan yields Amrit as well as the deadly, lethal poison, Halahal, thereby it is process which produces both life and death.
