Hindu God Shiva is also known as the God of destruction and together with Brahma and Vishnu forms the Hindu trinity – Trimurti. Shiva brings the transformation in the universe in the form of destruction, leading to a new creation. Shiva is also known as Adi Yogi or the first Yogi. Thus, through the practice of Yoga and self-control, Shiva is also the destroyer of illusion or Maya. Shiva is called Adi Yogi because he is believed to be the originator of Yoga. He is depicted as meditating in the forest with his Trishul (trident) and Damru (two-headed drum), sitting on tiger skin.
