Shailputri, meaning "daughter of the mountain," is another name for Goddess Parvati, who was born as the daughter of Himavat, the king of the Himalayas.
Reincarnation of Sati – In her previous birth, she was Sati, the daughter of King Daksha, who self-immolated in protest against her father’s insult to her husband, Shiva. She was reborn as Shailputri in her next life to continue her divine journey.
Worship on the First Day of Navratri – Shailputri is worshipped on the first day of Navratri, a festival dedicated to Goddess Durga, marking the start of the nine nights of devotion.
Goddess of Muladhara Chakra – She is associated with the Muladhara or root chakra, symbolizing the foundation of spiritual awakening. Her worship on the first day is important for Yogis to awaken and activate this energy within.
Depiction – Shailputri is depicted as holding a trident and a lotus, wearing a crescent moon on her head, and riding the bull Nandi, representing her power, purity, and connection to Lord Shiva.
