Vishnu is the deity responsible for preserving and sustaining the universe, ensuring its balance and protection, and is part of the Hindu Trimurti along with Brahma (the creator) and Shiva (the destroyer).
- Avatars for Protection – Vishnu incarnates in various forms (avatars) whenever the world faces a crisis caused by evil forces. His ten major avatars include Matsya (fish), Kurma (turtle), Varaha (boar), Narasimha (man-lion), Vamana (dwarf), Parashurama (warrior with an axe), Ram (the prince), Krishna (the divine cowherd), Balarama (Krishna's brother), and Kalki (a futuristic avatar yet to come in the current age of Kaliyuga).
- Depiction and Iconography – Vishnu is typically depicted as having a blue complexion, four arms, and holding a chakra (disc-like weapon), a mace (gada), and a conch (shankha), which symbolize his divine attributes of power, protection, and cosmic order.
- Sheshanaag and Ksheer Sagar – Vishnu is shown reclining on the giant serpent Sheshanaag, floating on the Ksheer Sagar (ocean of milk), representing his eternal, peaceful, and all-encompassing presence.
- Consort Lakshmi – Vishnu is often depicted alongside his consort, Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, symbolizing their divine partnership in maintaining the prosperity and stability of the universe.
